Garrett Berntsen
Garrett Berntsen is the Department of Defense’s Deputy Chief Digital and AI Officer for Mission Analytics, in the Chief Digital and AI Office. He most recently served in the State Department as their Deputy Chief Data and AI Officer and a Director for Technology and National Security on the National Security Council on the Technology and National Security team. Garrett previously served as the State Department’s Deputy Chief Data Officer, where he focused on leveraging evidence-based analysis and emerging technology to improve diplomatic decision-making. Prior to joining the State Department Garrett was a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting’s federal practice, where he supported the Departments of State, Transportation, and Defense with digital modernization. Garrett served five years in the U.S. Army, deploying twice to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division. He holds a Masters Degree from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Foreign Affairs.
